One of my most favorite places in all of Italy is San Gimignano! It has been far too long since my last visit, and I am ready to go back!
On separate visits to this medieval village of ancient towers, we eagerly repeated our delightful dinners at Albergo Cisterna. The truly Tuscan cuisine we enjoyed here was absolutely fabulous. Their creatively prepared dishes reflect the influence of the past and utilize many of our ancestors’ culinary tips. Only fresh, in-season products are used in the kitchen ─ and splendid beverages such as Vernaccia, Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino, Nobile di Montepulciano, Morellino wines and more are available to accompany your meal.
The hotel itself overlooks the main square of San Gimignano (Piazza della Cisterna) with great views of the nearby hills of Tuscany. Dining choices are yours to make, depending on the season, the weather, or just your own feelings ─ you can eat inside, outside, or at the brasserie.
A welcome gazebo shades the seating at Le Terrazze Restaurant, It is a wonderful spot to enjoy an aperitif and is the only restaurant-bar that opens onto the Piazza itself. Summer weather brings access to the Bar Brasserie for either the full restaurant menu, or for just a simple light breakfast, snack or aperitif. For my own evening dining pleasure, I choose the 14th century dining room every time, with its panoramic terrace setting overlooking San Gimignano’s beautiful countryside.
The full menu at this authentic Tuscan ristorante offers many choices in every category: Antipasti, Primi Piatti, Secondi Piatti, and Contorni too, if you have room! One of their dozen or so Pizza selections may be more to your liking ─ but do save room to enjoy one of their delicious Dessert choices. A huge fan of Tiramisu, I am not ─ although I must say their Tuscan version was just awesome!
